Vatican hotels & places to stay

The room was perfect, the hotel on the outside seemed a bit old but the rooms were absolutely perfect. Open, spacious, and well lit. It's obviously not a 5 star hotel but its one of the better 4 star hotels I have stayed in. To put it simply if you are ever looking for a place and are stuck on whether to stay here or not, stay here. The hotel room is great. The hotel itself is old. The age of the hotel is visible via the elevators. It's also not a huge hotel. Those are the only 2 reasons I can see why it's not a 5 star hotel. My only minor issue was that we asked for a double bed and got was obviously 2 twin beds squeezed together. They put enough bedding on to where it wasn't uncomfortable but the dip in the middle of the bed was obvious. Another thing to note was that there isn't much in terms of shopping near the hotel. There are souvenir shops but no big named brand stores. One great thing though, the vatican is about a 10-15 minute walk away from the hotel. A nice shopping area and also Trastevere district is probably a 15-20 minute walk away. If I was looking for a hotel in Rome, especially if I wanted to be near the vatican, I would choose this hotel.

Its literally just down the street from the Vatican. From the nearby square you can take buses or trams to a lot of places in the city, or you could just walk since everything of interest is really close by. Food choices aplenty nearby, but head off to the square to get some cheap pizza, some really good gelato, or some sandwiches. There are a few markets a block away, and lots of restaurants both local and western all over (but since you're that close to the Vatican, many of the places are slightly more expensive). Highly recommend going to Otello in Trastevere (its about a 15 minute bus ride) for some good, cheap, authentic cuisine that isn't pizza. :P Or go to the nearby McCafe (yes, McCafe serves up really good Italian-style coffee) or the Indian restaurant across the road. Last Sunday of the month is free entrance to the Vatican museum, so you could just walk up there at around 6:30 or so to queue up.

The hotel was 30 min by shuttle bus from the Fiummicino airport and the bus stop was just 5 min walk. Since my main purpose was to have a pilgrimage at the Vatican, it was only 10 min walk from the hotel. The vicinity of the hotel is surrounded by restaurants, grocery store so ita was easy to get your meals and food. The lady at the reception was very pleasant and helpful,she even called my tour provider to pick me uo at the hotel. Everyday, the room was cleaned and new towels were provided. The breakfast was also great with unlimited amount as you can eat and it was self-service. I really enjoyed my stay, got good rest and sleep and always ready for the walking tour for the following day. I stayed for 4 nights and the price was very reasonable for the solo room I got. I will book with them again when I return.

I loved this ancient building, recently converted to a luxurious boutique hotel. I stayed at the Rezidenza because I was in Rome for only 56 hrs and I was booked to do 3 tours of the Vatican, Vatican Gardens, Necropolis,Museums and St Peters as well as a 4 hr guided coach tour to Hadrian's Villa and Villa D'Este. It was 40 degrees celcius in Rome, teaming with people so popping back to the Redenza to go to their loo rather than battle with the approx 30.000 tourist using the public ones was such a bonus!

Located in a not busy section of Rome so it's quiet - you get a good night's sleep and there's not busyness when you step out of the hotel. The building feels like old world Rome that was turned into a hotel. Love the vibe! The elevator is one of those non modern ones but very safe - not scary at all just very consistent with the vibe. The frontdesk staff were ALL amazing, I'm the type of traveller who asks a lot of questions and I always go to the frontdesk for guide and assistance about the city I'm in and all the frontdesk officers were all glad to help 100% - not half hearted help - they made sure you get the help you need 100%. The hotel is very near the river and when you cross the short bridge and walk around you find yourself stumbling upon the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, the shopping district and all the Piazzas. Also very near The Vatican. There's a Pharmacy just below the hotel in case you need anything. Overall I felt like I made a great choice with Hotel Sant Angelo!

I cannot write enough great things about this hotel near the Vatican! It was perfectly located, just under a 2 minute walk to St. Peter's Square, and 10 minute walk to the entrance of the Vatican Museum. The room was the most spacious room I stayed in during my trip to Italy. The balcony was definitely an added bonus. The breakfast they offered was a nice touch. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating during my stay. I had to wake up early, so I asked if breakfast could be delivered well before they offered it, and to my surprise, they were more than happy to fulfill my request! The room and restroom were very clean. I liked that the shower had both a rain fall head and a detachable shower head. And, of course when in Italy, the restroom came with a bidet! I can't speak highly enough about the location. Not only was it close to the Vatican, but it was also a 3 minute walk to the bus stop and railway, and about a 10 minute walk to the metro station. Loved my stay!!!

We stayed here for our last night in Italy. This is a Christian Guesthouse & it is very quiet & peaceful. The service is good & the only downside is that it is located at the New Part of Rome. It is within walking distance of Lepanto Metro & if you are visiting Vatican, this is the hotel for you, just a stop away. The hotel is clean & there is breakfast as well. Well worth the stay.

I booked a this hotel because it was relatively inexpensive, and close to the Vatican City, and subway (metrotrain) station. It's actually a great starting point! In 7 days, we did 5 day tours, returning to a clean hotel with character! It provided comfortable beds, clean shower & toilet facilities! The staff was super nice, and answered all of our questions! We purchased the breakfast, but ate there only once, cause it opened at 7:30am, and we left each day well before that! The eggs were super salty! Coffee was luke warm, orange juice was good! And, it's on the rooftop, so it was quaint! The hotel was adequate for the on-the-go family like us! Thanks again for the accomodations!

My 14 year-old son and I stayed for four nights at the NH Giustiniano last week and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. The personnel were, without exception, friendly, attentive, and responsive. Our room, which we upgraded to a suite when we checked in (an extra euro a night -- maybe not worth it if you won't be in the room much, but I knew my son would need down time and it gave us space to be "alone" together), was quite large, very clean, and decorated very simply (a tad sterile for my taste), and that bathroom had a great, large, rainfall shower head, plenty of hot water, and wonderful complimentary products (not just the standard but also a brush, comb, shaving stuff, emory board, etc.). The breakfast, included with our room, rocked. I think it is the best breakfast spread I have seen in all my travels in Europe. In addition to all the (high quality) pastries, breads, jams, meats, cheeses, yogurts, cereals, fruits etc. that are typical, they also provided scrambled eggs (real ones)! bacon (thick, not overly fatty, perfectly cooked), and tasty sausage. We had one meal, a late lunch there, too, and it was delicious. Lastly, the location of the hotel -- which is originally why I chose it -- is great for the Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo, and other attractions in that area, and is a lovely starting place for strolling along the river (the bridges there are fantastically beautiful). We took taxis to the colosseum and Trevi Fountain, etc. (partly to keep my son from complaining about too much walking), and they came very quickly every time and were not that expensive (9 - 13 euro for 10 - 15 min distances). And there's great chopping very nearby -- not the most expensive shops, thankfully, but very good ones.

Our stay at dei mellini was fantastic. The staff were on hand prior to our arrival & we're very helpful in arranging our chauffeur to pick us up from the airport. They also arranged a bottle of prosecco on ice in our room for my partners 40th. They were helpful throughout our stay, even the bellboys/porters, maids & breakfast room staff were all polite. Bus tour tickets available from the hotel, then the nearest pick up is st the Vatican. The location is perfect with the Fiume trevere located behind the hotel, a 10 minute walk to Castel sant' Angelo & the Vatican. Two fabulous restaurants near to the hotel, vitos & splendor both priced reasonably well €60 for a family of 3. The hotel has a games room, which our 6year old loved & used in the evening. November is s lovely time to go with the Autumn sun, average 29 degrees, & the Xmas decorations up. Queues are not to bad & best going to the Vatican at about 5pm. We queued for about 10 minutes.

My friend and I booked here after an appalling experience at another hotel (long story) and o have to say what a triumphant contrast. The staff were wonderfully helpful and thoroughly multi lingual. I wish to make special mention of the young Filipino (I think) lady who was at reception who is an absolute credit to the establishment. Breakfast was lovely, well presented and accessible with an abundance of choice. A stones throw from The Vatican so ideal for pilgrims like us. Many Thanks

The hotel accommodations and the staff were excellent. Our Vatican tour met at 7:30 am at the bottom of the steps adjacent to the hotel 30 seconds from the lobby. Therefore the morning of our Vatican tour we did not need ton worry about getting a cab to our meeting location for the Vatican tour. The staff provided us with restaurant recommendations for dinner and breakfast that were very good. The hotel allowed us to store our luggage in a secured room during our Vatican tour and pick it up after the tour at no additional charge. The staff secured us a taxi when the taxis outside the hotel wanted to charge us double the fair / market rate. We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel.

Everything about this hotel is excellent. Staff are friendly and attentive, breakfast (included in our rate) was great, the room, although a little on the small side was clean, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom well maintained and well stocked! We had a quiet room and were not aware of the noise associated with other parts of the city at all. Close by to public transport and a 15 minute max walk to Vatican City and 10 minutes to Piazza del Popolo. Sadly hotel doesn't offer rooms with balconies (but this is common in Rome for this kind of classic hotel) and the Roof garden was shut due to recent Government restrictions, however there was a small ground floor garden next to the bar. Would recommend this hotel whole heartedly.

Casa Sotgiu is in a great location. About 20 minutes' walk to Vatican City in one direction and a little less to Spanish Steps in the other. The Borghese Gardens are less than 10 minutes. Lepanto metro stop on Line A (Orange) line is less than 5 minutes away. The guesthouse is in a lovely, large apartment block on the 3rd floor. Small, quirky lift gets you there. We had the Arturo room which is the first room. Very nicely decorated, a comfortable bed, nice long bathroom and quite a lot of cupboard and drawer space if you need it. TV, kettle, safe, etc. all available in the room. Breakfast was a very enjoyable buffet available from 7.30. Coffee, teas, bread, cakes, pastry and cereal. The coffee machine was available at any time so we were able to make a lovely coffee or tea whenever we wanted. With only 5 rooms it's very quiet and peaceful inside. Hotel Pension Joli (and its sister facility in the same building, Hotel Florida) was a wonderful place for my family of 4 who wanted to stay in a budget hotel in Rome during our week and a half there and its environs. The budget room rate, its central location (virtually next door to the Vatican, 10 minutes from the Ottaviano and Lepanto Metro A subway stops, 5 minutes from a tram stop, and plenty of city bus stops, restaurants, and shops in a terrific neighborhood), and the friendly and helpful staff all made our Roman Holiday a great, most enjoyable and memorable one. For people looking for a budget hotel in Rome, Hotel Pensione Joli is a very affordable and comfortable hotel they should seriously consider. By the way, the hotel is within reasonable walking distance (10 to 45 minutes) to so many attractions of Rome if walking and strolling on and through Rome's atmospheric roads, lanes, alleys, and piazzas (city squares) is one's budget way of going to and seeing the sights.

The staff influenced our positive review, by their good cheer, excellent language skills and speed of service. T find a small restaurant within the hotel waved us trawling for a nearby cantina, with the rather dreary standard food of Old Italy. This food, and that of the generous breakfast included, was of a much better standard, the extra-cost dinner, at a fair price for imaginative dishes. A small private car park for 10 Euro was a welcome accessory. Bathroom sufficient, with bidet - all spotless, and the bedroom small but enough for on or two nights. Doubtless the hotel has bigger and better rooms for those who like to swing a cat. NOT in the Vatican City, as the website would have one think, but only a little way from the 'border'. We will use again.

Emmaus Hotel is located at the center and the closest hotel to the Vatican entrance, the hotel is literally a few steps away from St. Peter's Basilica. St. Peter's Square at night is very beautiful, and there are almost no people walking around at night, you can take pictures and just admire the beauty of the Vatican at night. The hotel is very very clean, place is quiet, you can sleep and rest peacefully when you get tired from the tour. There is a lift or elevator, this is a big plus especially when you have luggage. There is also an AC on the room, this is a must because it was very very hot on the summer. The hotel room that we booked, 4 beds, we really big and spacious. A great view! There are also good restaurants nearby, we are from the U.S. and we think that the food are a little bit expensive, average good meals are around 15 Euros. Water in Rome is very clean, you can literally drink from the fountains around the city. You need to prepare to walk to enjoy the city!

4 night stay, deluxe room with large terrace looking towards the vatican. modern design to room, excellent air con, sky tv, free internet access on computer on every floor. wifi not working. Buffet breakfast very good. Great bar, hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent location-walking times Vatican 10mins, Spanish steps 10mins Trevi fountain 15mins. lots of great bars and restaurants nearby.

Location-- Convenient, within 10mins radius from Metro A line Ottaviano station and within 15-20mins walk to Vatican city and Vatican Museum. Safe for night return even at around 10+pm. Thankful for the close location to Vatican museum to allow us to queue early in the morning to get in. Sushi restaurant, Burger King, few Italian restaurants and cafes all just nearby. Staff-- Enrico welcomed us personally. He had always been keeping himself updated about our arrival. He readily responded to messaging during our stay and was very helpful with our arrangement for check out. Friendly and welcoming! Facilities-- Clean and tidy room. Towels provided, packets of shampoo too. Huge cupboard for hanging with few clothes hanger. Air conditioner was handy during the night. Bed was clean and comfy. Kettle, fridge, safe box in the room were greatly appreciated! Toilet was clean and well-maintained. To add-- Breakfast was greatly appreciated in Italian style. Cafe was just across the street.

I was travelling with my parents for an anniversary and we had an excellent experience at the Visconti Palace. They were staying in the 7th Heaven Suite which features separate living and bedroom, a very large bathroom, and a rooftop balcony running over the full length of the suite. The decor is quite up-to-date but the most positive experience was a very nice fruit platter and a bottle of very decent prosecco in a freshly filled ice bucket upon arrival, and a second bottle on the fI was travelling with my parents for an anniversary and we had an excellent experience at the Visconti Palace. All in all very recommendable experience!ollowing day which was my father's birthday. I had booked a lower category double room but was upgraded to a nice double room on their (7th) floor with wooden flooring and a decent balcony as well. On the same floor is a quite large rooftop terrace with nightly BBQ and live music but it stops at 11pm and does not by any means disturb the stay. I say wow, I checked in the hotel the staff was nice and ease. The hotel has nice lobby although it was small. The hotel has unique Otis elevator older transparent old style just like in the movie. It was nice design and use. Make it looks antique and nice. The room was big and classic style. Very nice. Breakfast is located at the roof top and the food was very good. Hotel also located near vatican and it was nice hotel. I said it was great value hotel. I have to say I love it and will stay next time with my wife and kid.

Great location- easy access to metro and buses - very close to Vatican museum - Sal was very friendly and spoke good English- very prompt with pickup and drop off to airport - close to Soccer Stadium by bus - room was as big if not bigger than most Euro hotels - reasonably price - great restaurant right next to apartment- make it easy after long day of walking and sightseeing- also, great ice cream parlor that served best Gelato ever, right next door - Catholic Church right next door too - all in all GREAT - I highly recommended

I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was very comfortable and the decorations and design was really cool. We stayed here with our 3 kids, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms have a stereo that plays good music throughout the room and the bathroom. The bathroom has a disco ball and blue lights and my kids loved turning on the music and dancing in the "boogie room", they called it. It came with a breakfast buffet every morning, and it was delicious. My kids ate a ton of food and the restaurant lady was always very nice to us even though we were a little messy. Food was great! It is situated on a quiet street, but only a 10 minute walk to the metro and shorter walk to good restaurants. We stopped by a gelati place down the street every day that was cheaper than the tourist attraction gelati carts. The hotel is close to the Vatican (within walking distance) and you can get most places on the metro. It was really easy to get to the airport--the staff scheduled a taxi for us since we had an early morning flight. I really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again.

The room was exactly as shown in the pictures. The location is great - close to the Vatican, to metro and bus stations, to Tibre, to big and lively streets, bars, restaurants and shops, even not so far from Stadio Olimpico (we came back from an UEFA champions league game at midnight for 30 minutes by walking). The bathroom, more precisely the bath cabin needs to be either perfectly clean or renewed. Other than that this is a place we will stay again.

The hotel is so well located that my friend and I walked pretty much everywhere: Castel Sant’Angelo, Vatican, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc. There’s also a bus stop a few steps away with a direct route to Termini Station and the Colesseum / Roman Forum. The hotel itself is in a classic roman building with beautiful floors. The room was very comfortable and spacious, and we usually took our breakfast up to the terrace to enjoy the sun. The staff was always helpful and ready to advise on the best way to get the most out of the day. Can’t recommend this place enough!
