Scotland County hotels & accommodations
This is our second stay at the Scotsman. It was an amazing hotel in the heart of Edinburgh. Located on the North Bridge and just a block off the Royal Mile it is perfectly placed. It has the flavor of Scotland. Our room was a corner room on the 6th floor, it was clean, bright providing stunning views. The only surprise was the missing bar and restaurant and spa!! ...
One of the best apart-hotels we've stayed - complete facilities whether you eat out or have take-aways. Location was excellent...at the Royal Mile- staff was great and very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended - will definitely stay again when we go back to Scotland.
large spacious apartment in the best location possible. Booked accidentally (price wasn't clear on Agoda website), so I wasn't happy with how much I paid, but that is beyond the control of the staff who were all great.
We had a lovely stay at the George Hotel. The staff were friendly and very helpful at all times. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Our only criticism is that there is no bar fridge in the room to chill any drinks or water purchased. We found this to be a common occurrence throughout Scotland.
Great central location but nearby parking quite expensive (£18/day hotel in same street or £2:50/hr, max 4 hrs around corner). Some parking nearby free 17:30-08:30 if spaces available (mostly resident permit holders only). Ideal for traveler using public transport. Mattress springs bit old but hotel peaceful and staff pleasant and helpful 24 hours a day. Tea, coffee a...
We enjoyed our stay at Knights Residence at the beginning of our trip to Scotland. The hotel has a convenient and reasonably priced car park, very helpful for us since we had a car in order to visit other parts of the country later in the trip. We received a very warm welcome from Chris, the manager on duty. The hotel provides some basics on arrival - bread, milk, te...
Great! Simply Great for an affordable price! Hotel management knows their differences compared to other city hotels, and they are trying their best to cover up those differences. The room was wonderful with all the amenities provided with regard to its price. Layout of the room was good too, not too narrow, and the wide bathroom. Also the view from the windows was...
Two of us stayed in the Victorian house hotel, mid Feb 2019, for 4 nights. We booked the super king sized room (although, I think we got the king sized room as we had wooden floors, this was not an issue for us at all). Things that were great: Lovely building with lots of character. Location of the hotel was perfect, about 3 min walk and you’re on a main road (Sauchi...
I booked the junior suite and believe it was very good value for money. The receptionist was very accommodating and helpful throughout. The room is more or less standard size of a hotel room, however, it comes with a kitchen which is seperate from the sleeping area. As I spent over a week in Edinburgh it was very convenient to be able to store food in the fridge and co...
I have never been to a hotel where the staff are so friendly, and welcoming. The spa facilities and pool are perfect. The pool is like jumping into a warm bath, magical when it’s nippy outside. The beds are super comfy, the rooms are luxurious and very clean, the shower is fab. Also the breakfast, wow this will set you up for the day, there is everything you could po...
If you travel from/to Edinburgh airport with the airlink100 bus, same stops just in front of the hotel (both ways)- use Westend stop. Easy!. But apart from that, with its location just at the west end of Princess Street, one is in the heart of Edinburgh at more affordable rates. Just opposite the hotel is a Sainsbury local store - easy for snacks! And a bar, the Grosv...
We found this Hotel to be very convenient for our purposes. The Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Any extra items i.e. towels coffee etc. were obtained from the desk without any problem. The rooms were very clean and serviced every day. As it was very hot and no A/C in room, it became a bit uncomfortable to sit in the room for...
I'm really not used to writing comments about hotels or B&B but POINT A is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed having traveled around the world. Everything is just in place. Gary the guy at the front desk is out of this world. He's always on tap to get you anything you want accompanied with a lovely smile. I had to jokingly but seriously asked him if he barel...
The breakfast was great, service was excellent. We traveled Scotland by train using Glasgow as our base so Alexander Thompson Hotel was perfectly located down the street from Central Station
this was one of the best stay we ever had for Europe trips. The apartment is nicely size. With a nice sofa area, a full kitchen with all the utensils, bowls and plates. There was oven and a washing machine. Toilet is good size too. The Tv screen had helpful information and the staffs were very friendly and helpful. Prior to this we stayed in a 4 stars hotel in London a...
The location of the hotel is a bit of a walk from the main train station. For travellers with big luggages, cab will be the best option. Room is very comfortable, cosy and clean. Hotel does not have a lift, travellers with big and or multiple bags should request for ground level rooms. No laundry services and food services (other than breakfast) in the hotel, the neare...
The room I booked online was not the same for its square meter and it was not looking to a day light. In the picture I had from Agoda, There was a nice window and sofa Room service takes 30 - 45 minutes for a wine and never the orders came in rightly. First night dinner at the restaurant I asked first 250 ml red wine and then a glass came in and I thought it was the h...
Enjoyed our stay. Have experienced some very poor and expensive hotels in Scotland. This hotel has been very good.
This hotel is fantastic, after reading reviews I was sceptical but once there was amazed. Excellent location, fantastic rooms and very clean.reviews stated rooms were cold but I was not cold once evenvwhrnnthe heating went off. Luce on reception was fantastic seeing to our every needs. I will be returning to this hotel later in the year .
I laugh at the reviews that describe the "dated" decor and amenities. The suite we had was spacious and charming and provided everything we needed. We had a huge, well-appointed bathroom. We had to move around the space heaters to warm it up a bit but so what? If we had wanted a cookie cutter chain hotel we would have booked it. Ugh. This hotel was grand and bea...
Ideally located near Scotland city centre and tube/bus station. Very clean and value for money.
The hotel has a interesting history and warm feel a home away from home. A nice little in-house bar and multiple lounge areas. The rooms were a good size although our room was below street level with limited natural light, I would recommend asking for a room on the upper levels. The staff were great and secured expensive items that were left behind for a week to enable...
booked a short stay for Christmas shopping, the hotel is 5-10 mins from the end of Princess Street. The staff gave us a warm welcome,, the room was nice and warm and very clean. On the day of departure we asked if we could leave our suitcases as we still had a days shopping to do. No problem. When we returned to the hotel on the evening we were asked if we wanted to h...
The Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Hotel is a classic traditional hotel with all the amenities one needs. Ideal location to accommodate overseas guests and ‘wow’ them with Scotland and Edinburgh’S charm. .
We booked the 2 bed Apartment for 2 nights and 3 days. The check in was smooth and efficient, the apts have a secure underground car park for which you are given a fob for entry in and out. This took the hassle of city parking away and the cost, there is an excellent bus service 100 yds or so up the road which cost £1.60 single per adult and took you straight into the ...
My husband and I stayed in early April for the weekend and were greeted by a glass of complimentary champagne. The rooms are all bespoke, our room had a “Rio” theme and featured carnival photos and Christ the Redeemer covered one wall. The full Scottish breakfast featured haggis and potato scones and was delicious. The bar was very busy in the afternoon with locals h...
First time in UK and Scotland, we went there for honeymoon trip. Apex waterloo location is perfect as it close to waverley station and any other attractions including cartlon hill, edinburgh castle, etc everything are on walking distance. The room itself is pretty small considering we have 2 big luggages. The bathroom was pretty big i suppose but no bathtub. The bed w...
Best thing about this hotel is the location. If you are a tourist that's the best thing for you. You can walk from Waverly railway station or bus station even with some luggage. Also if you have booked with Rabbies for Scotland tour then it's located next door. I didn't have food here. But this review page forces you to put some rating. Check in and checking out were h...
Have stayed her before, and still one of our best hotels, room on the small side. But was sufficient for our two night stay, Tea & Coffee, Fridge, Hairdryer, and very clean. Bus right outside hotel front door, into Edinburgh city centre, first class breakfast each morning, something for everyone, from cereal to a full cooked. Would recommend if staying in Edinburgh.
Cheap places to stay in Scotland County
Great and very safe facilities for a solo female traveller. The staff was fantastic and would help you with any issues that might arise. It's very camping/fringe mentality in August but if that's what you want, it's the perfect place to stay and meet very creative and interesting people. Straight bus connection to city centre. More than value for money.
The best for short stay, not far away from city center, clean and good looking rooms. In my opinion toilets was too small but clean, with soap and shampoo. Good price and friendly staff. I would like to come back :)
As a whole It’s really a good place to stay . It’s clean, rooms are spacious comparatively . Have a wide kitchen and lounge. Even though few things to consider . There are no Lockers in the rooms . Not so many restaurants options around. But the Bar at the Side of the River and the Indian food place was good. For me the Receptionist wasn’t that friendly, I had to pa...
great location with competitive price. suitable for packers to spend a week and wander around scotland. the staff are kind and warm. it is a nice stay
Incredible staff, very helpfully.Javi,Valentina, Helen and the other guy.Good breakfast very cheap.Kellogs, two kinds of milk,coffee,tea,toasts,margarine..all that u can eat.Complete kitchen..The rest depend of respect of the others(cleaning,noise..).U can leave luggage there in check out to come back at evening for take it.Meet nice people of all the countries.I come ba...
As far as hostels in Scotland are concerned – this is one of the cleanest at a reasonable price :) I recommend it!
Staff are friendly and helpful. They are willing to share with us the attractions nearby. Also, it is an unforgettable experience for staying in a historic building in Edinburgh. Also, it is very cheap and the location is very good that it is near to most attractions. The kitchen is very large that it was not crowded even when there are many people in it. Also, they pr...
We actually got a better deal with Agoda website than paying directly, so it only cost us just over £21 for two of us in a six bed dorm. Facilities were basic but clean, and much better than another hostel in the city (which we won't name). We would have given 5 stars for facilities if there had been lockers in the room. A towel would have been nice but, as it's a bac...
This place was amazing and not what we were expecting when we booked a hostel at the price we paid! It was decorated lovely, it was clean, the staff were helpful. There is a great locker/luggage area which came in handy. There is a really nice big bar with cheap drinks. The rooms are small but clean and have storage. The location was the best part about it, just off th...
Location is unbeatable, right next to the Waverley & Central between old town & new town. I got the double ensuite with the best view oversee the station & Princes Street and with most reasonable price during my stay (+30£). The Inn has the lift for heavy baggage travelers, Breakfast is good & free if booking direct. Highly recommended
I absolutely enjoyed my stay here. The staff is really friendly and helpful and there is just a positive vibe present in the hostel ..
I love castle rock hostel!! Best hostel in Scotland! This is my 5th time to come in scotland and ever since I found this place, I always choose here for my stay in Edinburgh. Amazing location which is right in the bottom of castle and you can see fireworks and even see all the cast marching out from castle during fringe time. Very close to glassmarket and royal mile,...
Well I must admit Haystack is da Best. 1. Location : walking distance from Bus terminal(w/c I used), train station, Waverley mall(w/c I visited frequently for currency exchange and groceries in Sainsbury local), and all other tourist spots. 2. Shower booths & restrooms : spacious & well maintained 3. Friendly staffs 4. Free locker in the room The only thing I d...
It is the best of the kind and the nice step The hotel is also clean and the location is fine
We were three adults of various ages and all of us had a terrific time! The island, house, and people were all beautiful. We didn't know much going in, but what a great time we had enjoying all of the activities and amenities. This was a great stop in the midst of a busy voyage to renew ourselves and enjoy some of the gifts of nature we had been seeing all too briefly...
I stayed in a dorm room for 3 nights. The decor is a bit dated but the bathrooms and kitchen were spacious, modern and very clean. The building is warm and cosy with plenty of space to relax inside and out. The kitchen has all the facilities to cook and store food for your own meals, as well as a fridge full of bread, eggs, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, etc for you to eat ...
The hostel is basic, it looks a bit rough on the outside, but it's got all the essentials. I stayed in a 4 mixed room and it was ok. A little bit small and beds are noisy, but ok. Showers and toilets were clean. Staff was quick at check-in. The location is great, a 5 minutes walk from the centre and surrounded by shops, pubs and other amenities (bus station too). Reco...
Very clean facilities, quiet at night as the property is away from traffic, and very helpful staff. The outlook is very beautiful. Suitable for family trip. Very recommended for backpackers who bring their own rice cooker and love to prepare meal by themselves just like us because the kitchen is perfect! 🤣 I would rate it 5 stars out of 5. Definitely will come back a...
Staff were great, kitchen was probably the best hostel kitchen I’ve seen. Close to train station. Gets a little loud at night when the drunk pub patrons are on the street and little chilly in the room (nothing that would stop you booking)
This is definitely the best hostel that I have ever stay! Staff are amazing and very friendly, breakfast is simple but I can feel lots of love in it as the staff prepared it every morning. The place is tidy which I really appreciate it, the hostel is located in New Town and it took around 5 mins walk to Scott Monument so it is very convenient to go almost every main at...
Convenient for public transport, for getting to Aviemore/Rothiemurchus Estate/Glenmore walks, and just next to a small nature reserve, perfect for evening strolls. Just on the South side of town, so quiet, but easy to get to the 'action,' such as it is in Aviemore. We highly recomment the nearby Indian 'Royal Tandoori' restaurant for when you don't want to cook for you...
We stayed in the Callander Hostel for 3 nights in a private room (4-bed dorm turned private room when required) having spent nights in a variety of hostels in NZ and Australia (both dorm and private rooms) before but never in the UK. Our stay exceeded our expectations as the hostel provided the right blend of privacy and communal facilities that we wanted and made our ...
Friendly and helpful staff, clean and modern facilities! Right next to the town's general store too, convenient if you want to cook and don't want to carry your own food supplies Had a really comfortable stay while doing the West Highland Way, thank you!
Parking is free, arrive early if you have a car. Absolutely beautiful hostel. I had a bay view from my bed. - the water pressure on all the taps are really high. I can laugh about it now but, the water from the shower created a wind current that blew my clothes off of the hook and into the water on the floor of the shower.
It was really convenient as right across road from train station.I just stayed the one night in Mallaig and Would recommend staying here
No where near clean. Toilet and bath is a mess, there was only 2 out of 6 bath available when Im there. Others are on maintenance.
Youth hostels are supposed to be basic and cheap. Not one or the other. This hostel is not cheap. A double room cost the same as two highly superior rooms in Edinburgh had cost the night before. The whole building feels like it needs to be renovated and renewed. Or at least, deep cleaned to get rid of the years and years of use. The building itself externally is...
The hostel is clean. Staff are very helpful. However, the place is a bit difficult to find. It just got a tiny sign show u the alley to the hostel. And, be aware of the chickens in the parking lot. They are not afraid of cars and always standing in the middle of the drive way.
The reception is very helpful. His information to walk to glen shee is very clear and we have a nice walk to see the nice view there.

We booked a three nights stay over New year to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had a King size deluxe room with a great view of the castle. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and assisted us with any information we needed on the area to enhance our stay. The breakfast had a choice of continental or a hot breakfast items and was continuously being monitore...
My wife and myself went to the Albany Ballantrae Hotel for our third stay and as usual weren't disappointed, this stay was for my birthday same as last April. Although the weather was a little wet and snowy we enjoyed Scotland as we always do. Massive welcome as is usual for us and we look forward to next year. Miss you Albany and Scotland.
I arrived at 7.30am after a 30 hour flight and on arrival said I knew I was exceptionally early and if I could leave my bags. The staff insisted on arranging my room to be cleaned so I could shower and relax. I also had a booking the second night as a twin share under another friends name so they arranged the rooms to be the same. truely the best service I've yet to re...
checking in and out was easy and staff were very polite and attentive especially in the restaurant although their menu was not exactly up to the 4 star rating of the hotel. access to the hotel was easy at all hours and access to individual floors was securely restricted by the use of room keycard only. the free room safe feature was a plus with guest able to set own co...
This Hotel is located just off Princes Street, a short walk from the tram. The hotel is just up from Rose Street, so its location is close to many of the pubs and clubs of the city so Saturday night you may hear some noise but it really wasn't an issue. There is a climb to the rooms up stairs but staff on hand to give you a hand with your luggage if needed. The rooms a...
I love this hotel. We booked the Junior Suite and it was large enough to easily sleep 4 or 5. The staff was cordial, warm and helpful. Amber gets a shout out for going over the top. If you want a comfortable room with crazy cool decor, sweet ass drinks for every palat and price range, with food to die for then stay at the Tigerlily. You won't be disappointed.
The moment we walked in the front door, we knew we were going to love this hotel. We had the great pleasure of being greeted by Peter Binnie, who was the afternoon manager for our entire stay. He was friendly, engaging and made some great suggestions for places to visit. Even more impressive, as my husband and I were wandering down one of the streets that Peter had rec...
This hotel was definitely not good value for money, our full room was about the size of a box bedroom. Bed was comfy although it seemed like our heating didn't work right as the room was freezing the whole time! We spoke to reception about it and they said it's connected the same way the electricity is so that when you put your room card in the wall slot this is when i...
By far, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. When I first arrived at Angels Share Hotel it was late at night, almost 11, and when I walked into the door I just saw a pub and was quite confused. I went back outside and into the other door and it was still the pub/restaurant part. The bartender saw me, came up to me and asked if I needed help. He then walked me ...
We travelled as a party for an event being held at a larger hotel.Being unable to book a room at the larger hotel we decided to stay at the Apex as it was close to the event .We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed .The staff were really friendly and helpful,We had a wonderful time and everyone agreed that...
I was there three nights. Got there early for check in but they had a room ready so let me check in there and then. Room was a great size - really large for a hotel room. Location is right round the corner from Grassmarket so brilliant for unique little places and bars and restaurants and a nice walk up to the Royal Mile. I ate twice in the hotel and was impressed ...
Me and my teenage daughter loved the raddison red our room was very modern the super hero theme is Amazing and our room was.very spacious and very clean the toilet was massive, loved the shower. We were top floor so we had a view. We also loved the sky bar which u must see if staying at this hotel. The beds have to be one of the best I've slept in and I'd definitely re...
We had one of the garden level rooms and it was quiet, fairly spacious and had a lovely bathroom. The wifi was the best we had in our two weeks traveling around Scotland and we appreciated the bit of sherry left in the room for the guests. We were tired on arrival and decided to have dinner at the hotel our first night which was not only surprisingly good, but at ext...
This hotel is literally a few minutes walk from the airport terminal so if it is a nice day and you don't have a lot of luggage you could walk to your flight. However it is Scotland and it was freezing and pouring with rain and I had three suitcases with me. One of which I could handle. The staff were brilliant at helping me with my bags both inwards and outwards. ...
Enjoyed my stay. The hotel is in best location. The hotel staff is is very helpfull.

My husband and I and our adult daughter stayed at The Old Chambers for 2 weeks. We had been to Scotland and Edinburgh previously so we knew something of the Old and New Town. The location of The Old Chambers was great no matter what direction that you wanted to go. 50 steps from the door was The Royal Mile and access to exploring the Old Town. We were about 100 ste...
We arrived and our room was not ready so we went to the bar to celebrate the start of out weekend away with some bubbles. The staff member took out an almost empty bottle and poured wine into both glasses. The wine was flat and she was about to top it up from a fresh bottle. When I asked her to throw away the old wine she gave me quite a look. Also the roses on the bar...
It is a lovely hotel undoubtedly but not without issues. Couples midweek stay. At check in, they thought the package with agoda did not include breakfast and took multiple attempts to address issue. We got breakfast but were not on list. Had eggs benedict for breakfast. Nitpicking but 5 star poached eggs should not be solid, lukewarm and have a thin hollandaise. G...
My wife and I stayed for 1 night in a Club room with castle view for our anniversary, can honestly say it was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, everything clean and fresh and the food and facilities fantastic as were the staff who were very helpful and friendly. Spa facilities are second to none.
This is one of the few hotels which we booked through AGODA where the hotel employee contacted us by e mail & phone prior to our arrival enquiring our arrival time. The location is ideal as it is located vewry close to town. The property is new and well furnished. The staff were courteous and helpful.
Just enjoyed our bi-annual trip to Scotland with a bunch of friends. This hotel is one of the best we have had the pleasure of staying in. The staff were wonderful and made us so welcome. I cannot fault the hotel and staff. I would recommend it very highly.
Pros: The hotel is in a good location. About 15 to 20 min walk from the train station. There are supermarkets, Sainsbury, M&S and frozen food specialty supermarket nearby. The apartment is huge! Good wifi coverage, flat TV screen, comfy sofa and fully equiped kitchen (with dish washing machine!) From the apartment's full window, the view is stunning as well. Cons: L...
We had a 10 day road trip itinerary of Scotland and decided to make this stop in ft William a day of pleasure and relaxation... the castle was beautiful and made us feel like we had taken a trip into the past. The grounds were quite and well manicured. It was a warm evening and we slept with our windows open... to awaken with birds chirping right outside our window...
This is better than what you hope to get. Spa is modern and fresh, the only reason I have given it 4 stars for cleanliness is the steam room was in need of a deep clean - the walls felts slimy which didnt make you want to stay in there. Everything else was totally spotless and tidy. Ideal place. Latte was £5 which was a bit steep other than that it was perfect. Oh the ...
Hotel looking tired . Requires upgrading , change of carpet etc. Can’t comment on spa as wasn’t there long enough to avail of service. Perfectly clean and room spacious enough. None of the windows opened in bedroom so unable to get any fresh air into room. Stuck fast with paint. Didn’t meet many staff but the ones we encountered were pleasant. Breakfast poor choice . C...
Because someone said that this is one of the well-established hotels that you have to stay before you die, we booked this hotel for two nights as one of the highlights of our trip to Scotland at the end. Perhaps it was once a glorious play to stay. Not anymore. The carpets in the hallway are so old and dirty, it is an embarrassment. SOME of the staff members are no...
The hotel was impressive, the room was great, comfy bed, the food was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would good back
I treated my 17 year old daughter to an over night stay. WE absolutely loved our stay. Everything was perfect and will be coming back again. I booked restaurant vouchers on Itison for Xmas presents and will be recommending to all my friends and family.
From the lovely welcome to check out this hotel cannot be faulted. We stayed in a Superior.woodland.lodge which was so comfortable. Had dinner in the Brasserie. Food was good as was breakfast . Lots of choice and cooked to order. This is a high end hotel so drinks quite expensive. As a treat well worth it and the spa was so relaxing. The staff are friendly and nothin...
We stayed 1 night. The hotel was an ideal location as we were visiting Kingsbarn whiskey center. Our room was a larger 2 double beds with a sea and golf course view (1017). Excellent bathroom and amenities. We ate in the bar for our evening meal and the food was good. The breakfast which was included in the price was excellent, a large choice and all very fresh. The s...
Hotel right beside the old course with best view to first and eighteen hole of the old course st andrews link. From the windows of my room you can see old course iconic hole
We were in annexe room outwith hotel, nice room spacious outside of building requires wee bit TLC. Great break thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was definitely a 5 star experience, highly recommended
Restaurant was great. Food was excellent and good value for money. Hotel, however, was disappointing. We stayed in room 2, facing the street, and despite the double-glazing of the window, there was no difference between having it opened or closed. After we verified, the window structure is defective and there is a big gap that allows the sound to come through. As this ...
We had a fantastic stay!! The host and hostess are incredibly nice, and excellent cooks! Everything about his hotel is perfect, definitely recommended!
Unfortunately I could only stay two days as I was attending my son's wedding at the nearby Archerfield Estate. I found the short stay very comfortable and service was second to none. The only minor problem was breakfast dining between 9am and 10am was busy and I didn't have time to wait to be seated, never the less, as I missed breakfast management offered me lunch on ...
Excellent accommodation and made very welcome. Food good and the best porridge ever.
My wife and I stayed here for one night due to it's proximity to The Brig O' Doon House Hotel in Alloway, Ayr where we were attending a wedding reception. The hostess, Rhona was very accommodating and even drove us to the hotel in her electric BMW car. The room was a modest size but still featured a super kingsize bed and ensuite shower and complimentary single malt wh...
The area have low coverage for Ukraine telecom company so you will disconnect from internet and the living room and bed room same room
The suite was lovely and large when we entered I assumed since I was paying for a suite there maybe some type of view but not the interior brick wall of the hotel. I did not complain since I was only there for an evening. Not sure why a high end hotel would offer a suite facing the wall without at least letting me know Front staff was not very friendly or inform...
