Monti hotels & places to stay

We recently stayed for four nights at the Rome Life Hotel. The hotel is very well situated (about 15 minutes walk from locations such as the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain) in the Monti neighbourhood. Our room was very modern, clean and spacious and the hotel provided a complimentary mini-bar (non-alcoholic) on our first night which was very welcome. The breakfast buffet was fabulous - fresh fruit, numerous cereals, breads, pastries and hot food too - and really set us up well for the day. All the staff were very friendly and all spoke good English (our Italian is non-existent). What capped the stay for us was that it was my wife's birthday - we had not mentioned this but my wife had put her birthday cards on the dressing table - and they left some lovely cakes in our room! We could not fault the hotel and will definitely book again when next in Rome

My husband and I stayed 8 nights at the Rome Times Hotel. I searched endlessly online to find a hotel in our budget that was a short walk from many iconic Rome locations and museums, and had a breakfast option. The modern look and feel was also important to me. I was pleasantly surprised to find our room had a king bed and rain shower in the bathroom. I've stayed in other European hotels that were not up to date. Rome Times Hotel staff were extremely accommodating, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was perfect- made to order cappuccinos (I take mine with soy milk which was available) and a large buffet of fruit, pastries, meat and cheese, oatmeal, cereal, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh juices. You always take a chance when booking a hotel in a new city. Having the Rome Times Hotel as our home base every day as we explored Rome really made our first visit to Italy more enjoyable and comfortable.

This is a well located hotel in Monti so it was an easy walk from Termini (the main bus/train/metro hub) or a quick walk to Cavour on the Metro. The reception staff, especially Alex, are very helpful and friendly. The a/c was amazing when were were there during a very hot week in August. Lots of closet space for clothes. Rooms are comfortable and very clean. Our family of three enjoyed it very much. Breakfast is simple but generous in the amount and offered on the 4th floor terrace which a nice change. Unlimited coffee/expresso available all day--great for when we were jet lagged. Would return again for sure.

I really can't say enough good things about this residence The room itself is just as spacious, clean, and bright as depicted in the official pictures. There are large windows that brighten up the entire room. When you first enter the room, you are provided with a book of restaurant recommendations, day-tours, and an assortment of other helpful tips. In addition, the staff also give you a very useful map of the city. The staff were very kind and accommodating as well. The location of the residence is also fantastic as it is a short walk to Termini Station, the Colosseum, and the ruins in front of the Palatine Hill. One thing to note is that since it is not really a hotel, room-service only comes once per week. But if you are fine with that, then I highly recommend this residence.

We had a good experience at Monti palace. The hotel was clean and in a good area with some great restaurants nearby. I will say this seems more like a 3-3.5/5 star hotel rather than 4. Staff were friendly but weren’t extremely over the top accommodating. Also oddly, we did not have a comforter on the bed until our last night. This was partially fault of our own because we did not ask for this to be provided, I wasn’t sure if it was custom haha.

Just returned from our 4 night stay. It was one of the best places i have ever stayed at. Location is amazing, walking distance to all that Rome has to offer. Free parking which helped us as we had a car. Great breakfast with plenty of fresh and yummy options. The room was so big and specious, set out in traditional Italian style and super clean. But the best thing about this place was the friendly and helpful service and staff. We absolutely loved our stay and could not recommend it enough. Can’t wait to return.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights in October and it was a lovely experience. The location of the hotel is very good as it is in the Monti area, which is very pretty and only a 10 minute walk away from Rome's Termini station. The hotel doesn't have a very obvious facade and I walked passed it without realising it was a hotel, and once you're there you have to ring the bell for entrance. On check-in you receive a welcome drink and can relax while your room is getting ready. The hotel is beautifully designed and artfully decorated with the common areas very relaxing. I stayed in a superior grey room on the first floor and was very impressed with the size of the room as well as how comfortable it was. The bathroom had a shower which was excellent and spacious. The room as well had a very comfortable bed and room for storage for my suitcase so it wasn't in the way. There was also a locker available in the cupboard.The room was very clean and tidy with cleaners coming in every day. The staff were lovely, very friendly and offered suggestions for places to eat. There is no room service, but you can go to any number of bars and restaurants around the area or bring food to your room. Breakfast was included and was very good serving eggs, bacon, fresh fruit and also Italian breakfast options with pastries and coffee. Overall, very good experience and highly recommended hotel.

Hotel Rafaello was a fantastic stay! The room was quite large and well-appointed. The hotel is a very short walk from the Termini train station, but is firmly situated in the super cute neighborhood of Monti which is less crowded and busy than the surrounding parts of Termini train station. The breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of options. The hotel staff also spoke perfect English and were very helpful with restaurant suggestions and helpful travel tips. I will definitely be coming back to Hotel Rafaello when I visit Rome again!

the hotel is in good location, just 5-10 min walk from train station. i suggest repubblica station, it's closer than roma termini. the hotel is surrounded with restaurants, shops, pharmacy. it's very convenient. the room is new, renovated and clean..however, my room has no wifi access. i guess because of my room is in the corner and can't connect to wifi signal so we have to use internet at hotel business office.

I booked this hotel based on price, location & reviews & was not disappointed. We were lucky to get a huge room with a small balcony. I'm not sure if all the rooms are as good as ours but I had booked 6 months in advance so maybe this is why we were lucky. Location great, 10-15 from termini, minute or so from metro station, short walk to the colesseum. A small square behind the hotel which was a lovely place to go at night for a drink. Lots of restaurants nearby. The staff were very welcoming & as I had left a note when I made my booking to let them know the trip was a surprise for my boyfriends 40th, they had left a bottle of sparkling wine & chocolate in our room! There was also 2 bottles of water left in the fridge each day. The only downside was the breakfast. They don't provide breakfast in the hotel but have a deal with a nearby cafe which is fine, but the breakfast while cheap was not great and & toilet in the cafe was enough to put me off returning for breakfast next the day.

I stayed at Hotel Viminale for a total of 3 nights in a single room. Having booked only hours before I was due to check in (and paying only $59 AUD for such a central hotel which also included breakfast) I did not have high expectations for the room. The room was perfect! Very simple but I had everything I needed. My room was on the top floor with a beautiful view of the city, and right next to the roof top terrace which is perfect to sit out on. Staff were not overly friendly but were not rude either. You will have to find your own room and get your bags there yourself but I did not consider this to be an issue. I was also given a map of the city upon check in. Certainly I'm not entirely sure that this is a 4 star hotel, but I definitely got good value for my money. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others (if you can book the room for a reasonable enough price)

Lovely apartment with lots of space, 2 big bedrooms with ensuite and large open plan area. Very clean (and I'm very fussy!). Good kitchen facilities and large dining table. Great service from Mia organising our stay, responding to email promptly and sorting taxi transfers. Highly recommend for family stay in Rome, much better option and similar price to the cramped hotel rooms! Also great location, only 5 mins walk to the Colosseum in a lovely area. Only 10 mins walk to Metro which we used to get to Spanish steps and Vatican. Plenty of nearby restaurants too. Overall a great apartment for a stay in Rome!

Close enough that our 4 year old walked with us to Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Roma Termini (the main transportation hub) and the Cavour metro stop all from Mrs. Julie's. The staff were like phantoms. We never saw them but always came back to a cozy cleaned, well-stocked room and they were quick to respond via WhatsApp. The breakfast that is included is a choice of a pastry or panini and a drink from a little bar just down the street and around the corner ON the corner, a minute's walk. Don't walk too fast or you'll miss it! The restaurant just to the left as you exit the palazzo has good food and even better service and they do take out. Best to order closer to 8 for freshness at dinner. I chose Mrs. Julie's because I wanted an authentic experience to show my family what it was like for me when I was living in Italy, ie. getting buzzed in to the building, the 2 person elevator with manual doors, the screen-free windows, the shutters that swing open. I would stay here again.

Very comfortable, with a spacious room and en-suite. Breakfast on the balcony each day was lovely and the staff were incredibly friendly and always helpful. We were given some recommendations of local places to eat which were some of the best meals we had in Italy!! It’s an easy walk from the main train station with metro stations nearby (although these were our of order for our visit) but the ancient center of Rome and other top sights are within walking distance so that was no issue. Highly recommend the Opera hotel and we’ll be staying there again when we’re in Rome!

The 2 minus points are 1. tiny elevator with limited capacity (3 persons) and very slow 2. lobby is on 3rd floor, if you have room assigned on 1st floor then either wait for slow elevator or run the 2-floor stairs to deposit / retrieve key every time you leave hotel. (if I am the owner then I would move lobby to 1st floor ASAP, more logic) In general, if you do not mind the weird access to your hotel lobby / room, this hotel is at walking distance to most of old Rome attractions and good restaurants nearby (Monti area)

Hotel is located in a quiet lane off the main street. Short walking distance to major historical sites including Santa Maria Maggiore and the Monti District. Our room had a view of the Santa Prassede church gardens which was very pleasant. The size of the room and bed where comfortable. All staff were pleasant and very accommodating. The only thing that was a challenge was the size of the shower.

We lived this Hotel Duca d' Alba. Friendly staff. I was able to check in a bit early which has not happened with many other hotels whilst traveling this summer. They had a little construction going on and I talked to them about the noise and never heard it again. While this hotel is not a 'luxury hotel' and the rooms are quite small. I found it quiet, cozy, good vibes, great location, superb staff. Will be staying here next time I am in Rome.

We were traveling with kids and had reserved a quad room. Our room was on the top floor and spacious. Perfect with kids. Location is great right out the gates of the Metro station at Cavour. Great neighborhood of Monti that is quite lively with some awesome restaurants and quick eateries around. 10-15 min easy walk to Coliseum and to the Roman forum. Staff was quite helpful.

We were originally due to stay in a hotel twice the price but I decided to save some money and I am so glad I did. It’s central location- close to termini station (so can use Terravision bus - 5 to 10 mins). Good location for all the main sites. Its not actually 5 viminale square or piazza (it’s on Viminale road - about 100 meters away). Anyway basically it’s an apartment within a building. There was about 5 rooms I think. I didn’t count them. Our rooms were great - clean, not huge but very nicely decorated. Our kids want a proper bed not a sofa bed. The staff were all super friendly - some of the nicest people we met during our stay. Although only a small breakfast - it was really lovely and just right to start the day. Fantastic croissants and great coffee. Then eggs, sometimes a bit of fruit, cold meats. Not a wide selection but what they had was great. It varied slightly each day though. Anyway full marks. It was great. We were very happy.

Fantastic triple room- had extra space so our 2yr old daughter had her own ‘room’. Amazing little extras such as biscuits, espresso machine, marmalade etc. Host also left us croissants for our breakfast on our last day. Loved the style of the apartment- unusual/classic furniture. Excellent location for Termini and Colosseum. Also excellent for getting to Vatican as can catch Metro from Termini- one straight line, no need for changing etc. Was raining and dark when we arrived- would have been very tricky to find had we not made a note of the street number. The host was fantastic calling us to advise our arrival time and a member of staff was waiting outside for us when we got there. Excellent stay- would definitely recommend to all family & friends.

I rate Hotel Dorica as a must stay hotel. It's close to Termini station, 15 mins walk to Trevi fountain, fabulous restaurants just down the street and shopping, shopping shopping. Hotel is family owned and ran, all great, friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was included and to die for, they make the best cappuccino in Rome! We centred ourselves from the hotel and walked to Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, pantheon, Vatican City and many more. Rooms were small but cosy, fast wifi Internet access, open balcony looking towards immigration building. There was no fridge in the room but you can buy cold drinks from reception at great prices. They helped me with tours and even opened breakfast earlier than normal hours so I could have breakfast before my 6.45 am tour.

Room was small, as in, could not walk around bed with luggage in room (think New York hotel room size). Great place for people who like free stuff. Lots of selection at breakfast but not a huge buffet. Very cool coffee machine that makes every kind of thing. Decent bathroom. They must have/had a building leak as the plaster is falling off the lower parts of the walls in “ Casa Lina”. Entrance very hard to find because street address not provided on Booking emails. Restaurant downstairs is FANTASTIC! Easy walk from Termini and close to great shopping. VERY LOUD neighbours talking, running stairs and pounding what I assume was dough all night until like 5 am so bring ear plugs and eye mask. Its Europe, therefore stupid to travel without them. Would stay again

Location: We stayed here with 3 people in June. The location was great since the hotel was located in a center point where it was walking distance to everything in every direction. The Colloseum in 10mins, the trevi fountain and pantheon in 10mins, Republica in 5 mins, spanish steps in 15mins, and many more other monuments in a few minutes walking distance! This was awesome since we loved walking around Rome seeing all the beautiful buildings, stoping by cafes, and shops. There are metro stations within a 5mins walking distance that are also convenient for getting to the Vatican (though it's walkable too.) Hotel: We booked a room for 3 people with 1 double and 1single! It was a great set up since we got a room where the single was a bit separated to give my brother some space in the room! Our room also came with a balcony, and a large bathroom. There was an extra bathroom outside in the hotel hall so when someone was occupying the shower it was convenient to get ready to leave for a tour. Internet: Was fast enough and worked well for booking tours and emailing. Breakfast: Buffet style with cold cuts, fruit, pastries, and tea and coffee. Staff: Very informative. They provide a map and show you the location of every monument and how to get there, when you first check in to better understand the area! Thank you! Overall, location was perfect for our short stay since we wanted to see everything! As long as you don't mind walking (which is what you do in rome) it's a great deal for a nice spacious room!!! There is even an international souvenir super market right next door with better prices (compared to near the Colosseum) too for last minute souvenir shopping that came in use!!
