"Though it may seem dated, Day Chen hotel boats an excellent location that is just a stone's throw away from Yilan town's largest night market. Lots of food to try at the night market, such as fried oyster omelette, scallion pancakes and deep fried fermented bean curd. We booked a room for 4 and it was clean and spacious. Staff mainly spoke Chinese, and were very cordial. Do try the beef and lamb noodles from the eatery just off the hotel's main entrance! Queue early to avoid the crowds."

"This hotel is around 5 mins from Ilan Station on foot. It is located in the shopping area of the city centre. There are Watsons, Starbucks, Kuang Nam...... right around the corner. The lady at the check-in desk was very friendly pointing out where we could go around Ilan, but one strange thing about this hotel is you were handed McD vouchers to eat your breakfast there. I find this a bit peculiar. The room itself is generally clean except one or two spots and there is a lift in this hotel, I was glad. Overall, book this place if you have a train to catch in the morning. "

"We traveled with a four year old. The hotel is out of the ways from Taipei City, but worthy of a stay with young children. We took the bus from Taipei to yilan. We then took the taxi to the hotel. You can actually walk but it is about 20 minutes. We were greeted at the door with some very friendly staff and they took our luggage even before checking in. Check in is at three so we went for lunch in the mall. During check in my child was given a welcoming stuff animal and his own door card. We first played the Sony PlayStation driving game even before going to the room. If your child is too small, they will have to double up with a parent. We stayed at the 8th floor. We had to pay an extra $70us but worth it. Our child picked up the toy car right away and drove into our hotel room. The hotel room amenities were first class. All brand name and even had nice beach flip flops for everyone. Just make sure you do not take or break anything in the room. It was $4 us for a tea spoon. We first went swimming. Clean environment but remember to bring a swimming cap as it is a requirement. We had dinner in the red lantern restaurant. We could not eat the famous duck meal as you need 4 adults to finish. By the way you can get free movies tickets to the theatre down stairs. Need to book tickets at front desk. Don't watch the really late movies as some of the mall doors get locked up at night. The buffet breakfast is excellent. Especially the drink selection not to mention the self design fruit juices. Check out is at 11:00 so you might want to let your kid play some more with the toy car. They also offer free limousine service to the bus depot. I really enjoyed my stay and would certainly come back. "

"The AC suddenly not working at 6 AM. Tried to call receptionist to ask for someone to check, no one picked up. Went ahead go down to the receptionist area to ask for someone to check. Only found security guard who said that the receptionist staff will arrive at 7 AM and he will inform the staff about the issue. I was confused as this will be first time I stayed in a 3 star hotel with no receptionist staff. I would like to know if this is really common for hotels in Yilan area to have this kind of arrangement? "
