Kyoto hotels & places to stay

Stayed here because it was close to Kyoto Station and the reviews had been very positive. We were not disappointed! Location was excellent, with a straight subway ride out to the Conference Centre for me and convenience for the family to go exploring Kyoto. Hotel staff were multi-lingual and very friendly. Particularly helpful when it came to sourcing a restaurant that could provide a group of friends w a true “Kyoto” food experience! Whilst the restaurant was hard to find, having the address written in Japanese was very helpful in asking for directions. Plenty of other food options also available at Kyoto Station. Particularly for this Australian who needs good coffee. Would recommend the “illy” cafe there for a good cafe latte! Overall, we would happily stay here again. The room was well appointed and spacious, comfortably fitting our family of 3. The bathroom was also well set out w separate toilet and shower which allow for everyone to use the space at once, if necessary.

This is a great hotel for a traveler who wants a very clean, well-located hotel, without paying for the “frills” that one rarely uses. Staff is very helpful, The rooms are large enough so one is comfortable spending an afternoon lounging about (which we did due to a typhoon sweeping thru Japan), the coffee shop serves a nice variety of food (although I wish that it served Japanese breakfast as is served in the sister hotel on Sanjo-dori), and there are lots of excellent restaurants (everything from a vegetarian buffet to top notch Japanese kaiseki), within 2 blocks. Several bus lines run along the main thoroughfare outside front door, and Kyoto Subway is at the front door, making it very convenient to go anywhere In the City (Kyoto train station 2 stops away ). This is my “go to” hotel in Kyoto!

We only booked for one night to see the top 5 attractions of Kyoto. New miyako was superbly located, just in front of the massive train station and bus transits which can lead u to ALL major attractions in Kyoto. You can take the bus 100 and get a day pass for ride all u can, you can see major temples such as Silver pavilion and a nearby one with a UNESCO heritage badge. Also can get dropped off nearby Gion town with possible Geisha sightings. I was able to go Fushima inari shrine, Gion and a main temple in half a day. Second half day was able to see silver and gold pavilion, also arashiyama. Meaning location excellent. Food not a problem with restaurants in hotel and nearby groceries and huge food court in train station. We got higher end rooms than standard ones which had a nice dark vibe in the corridors. A nice four star feel. Rooms a bit larger for Japanese standard that is also why i got it. 2 single beds (a bit hard but also a Japanese norm) and a sitting area with a table. Cable tv no English channel. I will probably stay here again if I visit Kyoto again due to proximity of hotel to Train station.

This is the first Kyoto hotel I stayed in Japan for six days. Hotel staff is from front desk down to kitchen are extremely helpful and polite, I am truly impressed by the japanese people, from their attitude to the ways things are being done. Hotel room is always clean and tidy whenever I got back. Hotel location is conveniently located next to the shopping district. It is also within walking distance to multiple subway line. The hotel is definitely worth for Its values to money. As an experienced traveler, I would strongly recommend you not to miss this hotel. Almost everyone says Kyoto is a beautiful place to see, but I would like to add one thing to it, almost every Japanese’s face in Kyoto are filed with warm and heartily smiles. Love you, Kyoto!

Hotel is conveniently located opposite the kyoto train station and bus station. The nippon car rental is also round thr corner. The rooms are v confortable and clean. They provide new sets of pyjamas and toiletries everyday. They also provided umbrellas on a rainy day. The hotel staff were most helpful with advice when we needed durections. It is a really great value for money hotel in kyoto.

As soon as we arrived we knew we were going to have a faboulous stay Recepcion hall is an open courtyard where a nice open fireplace warms you up as soon as you arrive There is also a great bar (with an other fireplace) My boyfriend is a smoker and as in Japan smoking areas are really hard to find he really enjoyed this one as it was in a great space. After our welcome drink (which was amazing!!) we got few information about the hotel and we have been really pleased discovering the Onsen was a free in house guest facility The Onsen was great we put on our super comfy kimono and enjoyed the hot water tub. Staff was great and really helpful, they even helped us book a great traditional dinner in a restaurant. We didn't really want to leave! I highly recommend this hotel in Kyoto

One of the best hotels in Kyoto, the staff are super kind and nice even I kept asking the questions. They also gave me some good advice and a useful map on my travelling and eating in that districts. Also, the room was very clean and comfortable. I will definitely stay is this hotel again during my next trip in Kyoto. And I will recommend my friend to book it too!! Thank you!!!

I knew this was a nice hotel but the service and amenities were above and beyond. You have snacks all time, free wine during happy hour, a beautiful onsen with quality cleansing products. The hotel was super central, minutes away from Nishiki Market (good stop for breakfast) and walkable to Gion. The staff were super friendly. Everything was super clean and everything that was provided was amazing quality. This is now my go-to hotel in Kyoto!

Room is spacious with ample natural light. The twin beds are quite large, although a bit firm. Bathroom is larger than other hotels I've stayed at in Japan, particularly love the bathtub & rainfall shower. At check in, they have amenities baskets for ladies and children, from which you can take whatever you like, which I thought was special. The staff may seem standoff-ish, but when they know you really need help, they are very helpful. They helped me book an airport limousine bus departing from my next hotel in Tokyo. Location is a 5-10 minute walk from Kyoto Station and just a stone's throw away from Kyoto Tower. The hotel also connects directly to Kyoto Station through the Porta on B1 level, which is convenient when it's raining. However, connecting to the Porta is through a series of steps (no elevator/escalator/ramp), so keep that in mind if you're travelling with a pram/stroller/wheelchair/large suitcase.

The hotel is located about a 10-15 min bus ride from Kyoto station and situated very close to the bus stops. It's got a very different look from the surrounding buildings so it's pretty easy to find even when you're a couple blocks away. Our room was huge for a Japanese hotel and everything was very clean. We booked the Japanese Deluxe 5 suite and the 5 of us had plenty of room to sprawl out. Our room (especially the bathroom) was beautiful with modern equipment (including a washer/dryer)! The smartphone gadget that came with the room was a very thoughtful amenity, although I did not use it very much. The staff seemed to be very fluent in English and were extremely helpful and professional. Our group had a wonderful experience at Mimaru and I highly recommend staying here you are in Kyoto!

I loved this hotel -- the room is pretty small, but I don't even think that is worth complaining about since all hotels in Japan have small rooms. I stayed in three hotels while in Japan, and this one had the most spacious and comfortable bed out of them all. I had a king-sized bed in my room. The hotel itself is really cool -- I loved the decor and the very modern, relaxed vibe. The public onsen in the basement was really nice, especially during the winter and after a long day of walking. We paid for the breakfast which is definitely worth it. The food was great -- a mixture of traditional Japanese foods with some more typical "hotel" breakfast-type food. It was just really nice to wake up and be able to not worry about where to find breakfast in the morning. Location was also super ideal for a tourist. I LOVE the neighborhood ! The staff were super nice and polite -- always accomodating and helpful. If I stay in Kyoto again, I would definitely book the Kyoto Granbell Hotel!

We’d spent 4 nights here as our base for Kyoto. Hotel is very clean, room is a good size, next to a 7-Eleven and the ladies at the front desk could speak English (at least could help us with directions). It’s 3-mins’ walk from Gojo subway station Exit 3 and approx 20 mins walk from Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo station. Two bonuses - (i) the hotel has a public bath (gender segregated - in fact the ladies’ has a number lock for security) and (ii) a ‘Handy’ mobile phone for our free use which is most helpful for more local info for sights, food to try and of course, navigation. Was pleasantly surprised that it is not only near to Kyoto Station, but it is also situated on the JR station side, which means we do not have to walk the length of the station to get to the Shinkansen station to Tokyo. Best located (for my purpose) hotel for me and my small family. There is a kimono rental shop just at the entrance and the selection was small but very beautiful. I personally did not rent from there but from what I can observed, it is a convenient place to start for your kimono experience. They charged around 3900 yen when I was there. There is a small Lawson right across the street from the hotel, in case you came back late from your excursion and in need of refreshment. The shops at Kyoto Station generally close at 10PM. Location is right next to Kyoto station, facilities are up to a 4 star hotel standard, unfortunately I would like to comment on the very poor hospitality service by front desk staff Mr Hamza, who spoke rudely and was very disrespectful to my partner when she wore her room slippers down to lobby for breakfast. We later understood that it is the hotel policy that slippers are only meant for the room, however Mr Hamza’s impolite manner to us as guests is unacceptable.

Joking in the title aside, Hotel Anteroom Kyoto was a refreshing change from the already-excellent hotels I've stayed at until this point during my first trip to Japan. Some solo travellers may find the single room to be too small for their liking - I'll admit that my room was a bit cramped, but given how beautiful Kyoto is, as a small base to take a break at once or twice a day, the small size didn't bother me that much. What really worked for me were the facilities at the hotel and the small list of what's available on the street the hotel is located on. Facilities-wise, you'll only need to spend 200-300 yen if you need to get some laundry done yourself, and if you do that during the night, you can wait for everything to be done in style at the hotel bar. As for the latter, that's how I found myself eating my first ramen in Japan, and how I found out about the best little bakery I've ever been to, anywhere in the world. First-time travellers to Kyoto booking a stay at this hotel may be a bit confused as to how to get to this hotel from Kyoto Station. Take the green subway line towards the south and get off at either Kujo or Jujo - the hotel is located on a major side street between the two stations.

I was traveling in Japan for 18 days, going to various hotels and places. Kyoto is definitely the place I love the most. Lots of places to go and see here. This hotel is definitely way excellent. Staff are very friendly, they help with direction, suggestion to go, one staff even mapped out a nice bike track for me to follow to Harashiyama. The hotel is very new. Room is big and high class... worthy of a 5 star hotel room. The location is very nice, it is at Sanjo where the centre of activities in Kyoto are. I will defn go back to Japan, and Kyoto is defn the place to come back to and this hotel is the place to stay at.

We spent 5 nights at the Almont whilst in Kyoto. Hotel has everything would need for a comfortable stay although there is no gym which was a pain! Staff are excellent, very helpful, friendly and accomodating. Hotel is located 5 mins walk from kyoto station, rear entrance. It's a quite and friendly part of kyoto and only 10 minutes walk to the front end of kyoto station where you will find all the shops, hassle and bustle etc Rooms are on the small side, which is the case for majority of hotels in Japan. A little disappointed with the breakfast but other than that a great and convenient little hotel with great staff.

The location is excellent, just the opposite side of Kyoto Station. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The hotel just below Kyoto Tower and the guest can access the Tower for free. Surprisingly, the hotel locates in central city and under the highlight city tower, but the price is reasonable. It even cheaper than other ryokans around. If you are not serious to stay in western style hotel in Kyoto, this will be the good choice.

Although I have only stayed for 1 night, but Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei did really impress me by its friendly staff, the facilities at room and the beautiful Kyoto-style design. I arrived at hotel in the early morning, as soon as the staff at front door saw me carrying my luggage, she immediately helped me with my heavy luggage and escorted me to lobby. After leaving my luggage to them (standard check-in 15:00), I asked few questions like transportation to Fushimi-Inari Taisha, the front office agent was very patient and nice while answering my questions (communicating with English was fine here). And the front office staff were having their smiles all the time. And the facilities at room were really sweet, for example, they even provided oily-remover for guests who wore make-up! and the bath-robe was also a very thoughtful idea since they did have a public large bath for guests in house (and it is free!) there were also complimentary two green tea bags and coffee bags for guests. And the bed was too comfortable that you might want to cancel all the trip schedule in order to lie on the bed. And the unique and special design of the hotel was fascinating as well, you could feel the strong sense of "Kyoto". I would definitely come back to this perfect place next time when visiting Kyoto! Thank you for making my stay a really great memory! (And I would like to try their breakfast next time which was strongly recommended by one of their staff)!

We stayed at the Sakura Terrace Hotel in Kyoto during the busy last week of November 2013. We paid US$160 per night, without breakfast, but it should be about half that during off-peak periods. The hotel opened in October 2013. It is conveniently located one subway stop south of Kyoto station, with the Kujo station exit right in front of the hotel entrance. Alternatively, it is a six minute walk from the east exit of Kyoto station. The room is 18 sq metres, and has a decently sized attached bathroom/toilet. Comfortable bed and strong flow of hot water in the bathroom. Free wifi, fridge and hot water boiler in the room. Our room was just next to the lift, but there was no noise. Split unit aircon for cooling or heating, but, unfortunately, very limited English language TV. Free washing machine and dryer located on the 4th Floor. Bar and breakfast room on the ground floor. Pleasant English speaking staff at reception. Only smoking room was available at time of booking, but the reception staff managed to switch it to a non-smoking room. Overall, I would rate the hotel as a 4-star, even though it does not have any restaurant or room service within the hotel. (Visitors have lots of food options at the restaurants nearby the hotel or at Kyoto station.) We will definitely stay there again when we are next in Kyoto.

It’s a beautiful property! The room was huge even by American standards. The futons were very comfy, and both the room bath and public bath were delightful. The staff were great as well, very friendly and helpful . The location is very convenient close to the subway, and the main shopping street is only a 6 min walk away. The only negative aspects for this stay were; one the WiFi was very spotty and very slow in our room, and two they were all booked up when we tried to extend our stay since we likes the room and Kyoto so much. Bottoms line is the rooms, staff and facilities are great, if you shouldn’t hesitate to stay here!

Kyoto is on of tourist mandatory must visit city in Japan. That's why we almost hopeless to find good hotel with good price in Kyoto. And we are so grateful to book Citadines in Kyoto. *Good location (right in front of train station exit but with stairs, so please find elevator from another exit which is also pretty near from Citadines). Citadines is very close to bus stop where you can go to some must visit place in Kyoto. *Good facilities (they provide 3sets of coin washing machine & dryer). *Cleanliness, staff is also amazing. And las but not least, they offer quite good breakfast with good price (average price in Japan) and the food is good too! Outside of the hotel, you can find couples restaurants. Really enjoy stay here and will come back one day we are back to Kyoto. Thank you Citadines!

This is my first time staying at Noku Kyoto. Since I check-in at 3pm, the lady at front desk showed her warm welcome to me and conducted the check-in procedure with her friendliness and sincerity. Besides, she did explain some important notes to me in detailed with her patience. I can truly tell that I was experiencing the great services of a 5-star hotel standard since I stepped into Noku Kyoto; the first approach already made me feel impressive. After check-in, my parcel & I were brought to guest room by another front desk lady, she did show me & invite me to enjoy the in-room complimentary snacks and coffee with her warmest hospitality; and also help to place my parcel well inside the room. Besides, the room was spacious with simple but comfortable interior design. In room facilities were sufficient and cater to guest's need. Even I think that it's much better than those luxury ones in premier international hotel brands. Apart from the room, my room plan included the morning breakfast. The guests are entitled to choose Japanese style or Western style breakfast that serving per portion per person. Even it was not in buffet style, the portion of western style breakfast was enough to made you full in the morning. I appreciated the breakfast included freshly made orange juice and vegetables that made it healthy. In a conclusion, I did absolutely enjoy staying at Noku Kyoto. If you would like to have a intensive visit to Kyoto city, you may consider staying here for a relaxation accommodation. Moreover, it's just only 4 metro stations from Kyoto Station; but not that crowd of people/tourists nearby the Kyoto station area, it's much enrich the vacation atmosphere. I would love to stay at Noku again while I come back Kyoto next time.

If you love immersing yourself in a culture and just going with the flow, a ryokan is a great way to experience a part of the long and ancient culture of Japan. A traditional style hotel, it is a different universe from your 4 or 5 star modern hotels, but as a unique experience, it is superlative. I cannot recommend enough that you go for the full experience - the kaiseki dinner, five courses of local, seasonal dishes, with easily 6 to 12 different foods in each course, is both delicious and artful. Luckily it is usually served in the room, and you are already sitting on the comfortably springy tatami mat because you are not going to want to move for several hours afterwards. The public hot baths are HOT! Ryokans were traditionally a one-night stop for pilgrims and travelers, and the amenities are customized to that experience - if you have been sightseeing to the limit of your endurance, a night in a ryokan is a great way to rest your aching muscles and relax before diving back into exploring the wonderful nation of Japan. Gion Hatanaka in particular is wonderfully placed next to Yasaka, an ancient shinto shrine, and within easy walking distance of Nishiki Market (great for foodies!), Kodai-ji, Shoho-ji (Buddist temple), Kennin-ji (Zen buddist temple with zen rock garden) Hanamikoji dori (the classic neighborhood of geiko/geisha) and just a thousand and one different attractions that are fascinating! The staff really cares about every little detail and your stay here will be a delight!

Wonderful onsen for the price! I arrived early and left my bags with them which were waiting for me in my room when I came back to check in after sightseeing. although it's in a beautiful area and located across the street from a train station I gave it a satisfactory on the location since the train line that runs to it isn't from Kyoto station. There is another station with a train running from Kyoto station but it's a long walk with heavy luggage so I recommend a taxi from that station or one directly from Kyoto station which is what I did but be warned it's a hefty taxi fare. Other than that the food and baths were wonderful! They have 5 private baths on a first come first serve basis (so be prepared to wait a bit if you want those unless you go earlier in the evening). There is also a free hot and cold drink bar along with ice cream in the evening and probiotic drinks in the morning, as well as a massage parlor for an additional fee of course but the massage was excellent!

Just a quick review to say that my wife and I have just spent 3 weeks in Japan and stayed in many Ryokans and western style hotels (including the Keio Plaza Premier Grand in Tokyo which was pretty amazing too!) but the Cross Hotel in Kyoto was the best value by far. I can't speak highly enough of their courteous and attentive service, their delicious restaurant meals (we experienced both dinner and breakfast and both were great!), the cleanliness and quality of finish of all rooms/spaces and the location...wow, what a great location, close to key tourist attractions, fantastic restaurants, shopping, bus and subway stops. It's really got it all. Enjoy :)
